Abstract:
The drilling of exploration wells in the Wenchang area of the western South China Sea has problems such as low surface operation efficiency, difficulty in drilling in active soft mudstone formations, slow rate of penetration and severe drill bit wear in gravel and granite formations, high friction torque in complex trajectory wells, and difficulty in casing insertion, resulting in high drilling operation costs. In response to the above-mentioned engineering and technical difficulties, a series of breakthroughs have been carried out in the western region of the South China Sea, and through on-site practice, a series of comprehensive drilling acceleration technologies suitable for exploration wells in the Wenchang area have been formed, including: surface and middle deep "two in one" wellbore structure optimization technology, personalized PDC drill bit design, selection of new acceleration tools, optimization of seawater based drilling fluid layering, precise drilling technology, and real-time dynamic intervention of drilling efficiency. The above technologies have been applied in 23 exploration wells in the Wenchang area of the western South China Sea. Compared with the 8 wells drilled in the early stage, the average drilling cycle has been shortened from 26.9 days before application to 20.5 days, and the drilling cost per meter has been reduced by 22.19% compared to the budget. The acceleration and cost reduction effect is significant, which strongly supports the exploration and discovery of multiple oil and gas targets in the Wenchang Area. The comprehensive acceleration technology for drilling exploration wells in Wenchang Area can provide important reference and guidance for similar wells in other offshore areas.
