Performance and Field Tests of Rotary Expandable Liner Hanger

  • Because structures are now more complex than in conventional hangers, rotary expandable liner hangers may involve higher difficulties in field tests and different operational procedures. To solve relevant problems, the structures and operational principles of φ177.8 mm×φ139.7 mm rotary expandable liner hangers and their key components were studied. Through tests of overall expansion on surface, hanging performances and simulated downhole operations, suspension, expansion and other properties of such liner hangers could be clarified together with relevant operational parameters. In addition, on-site application techniques were highlighted. On-site applications were made for the rotary expandable liner hanger in the Well GSS-036LR resulting in successful cementing operations with expansion pressures lower than 20 MPa and discharging rates below 0.2 m3/min in expansion operations. Research results showed that the newly developed rotary expandable liner hanger may be used successfully for rotation, expansion and liner setting, releasing and other operations, operation techniques can fully meet on-site demands.
