Drilling Technology of the SAGD Fishbone Horizontal Well in the Xinjiang Oilfield

  • To effectively increase the exposed area of oil reservoirs, to improve the steam absorption effects of heavy oil reservoirs and to raise productivities and recovery ratios of heavy oil wells, the Xinjiang Oilfield combined SAGD horizontal well technology with a fishbone horizontal well technology to drill several fishbone branch holes in the horizontal section of steam injection wells by using SAGD magnetic localization guidance and fishbone branch hole trajectory control technology on the basis of SAGD paired horizontal wells. The SAGD fishbone horizontal well drilling technology could effectively increase the exposed area of the reservoir and it was used to drill FHW3043 well group of SAGD fishbone horizontal wells. Successful completion of the FHW3043 well group had proved the feasibility of SAGD fishbone horizontal well drilling technology and accumulated experiences for the application of the technology for heavy oil development.
